On Positionality Stories, a blog hosted on Medium, teacher-scholars post first-person narratives examining how their identities, experiences, and perspectives shape the choices they make as scholars, teachers, and practitioners. With a focus on positionality in research, work, and teaching, these stories weave together the academic, the personal, and the public while also connecting academics with a large public audience.

Developed as a companion to the edited collection Storied Practices: Positionality in Writing Studies (WAC Clearinghouse, 2026), this blog publishes reflections from graduate students, faculty, and professionals across writing studies, communication studies, rhetoric, and related fields. Our writers go beyond surface-level acknowledgments of identity to explore the mess and the success—the genuine complexities of doing this work.
