The Kairos Campaign

The rhetorical term kairos spans millennia. In antiquity, kairos was a quality of time, that critical moment or opportunity for invention, when rhetoric imagined new possibilities and motivated action. In today’s Greek culture, kairos is often used to represent the weather, the seasons, and the climate. The Kairos Campaign of the Rhetoric Society of America is a campaign in the spirit of both interpretations. Because RSA’s existing endowments are specifically encumbered by policy and cannot be used for day-to-day operational expenses, The Kairos Campaign will raise an endowment flexible enough to support current and future RSA operations.

Now, today, is a critical moment when there is a pressing need and an unprecedented opportunity to invest in the Society for the purposes of securing its next season of growth and to sustain its culture and climate for future generations of rhetoric scholars. We invite you to please join your elected RSA Board of Directors, all of whom have generously supported The Kairos Campaign. Your support is crucial to RSA’s ability to continue to publish Rhetoric Society Quarterly; to produce such programs as the Biennial Conferences and Institutes, the Emerging Scholars Program, the Scholarly Writing Retreat and RSA Remotes; as well as providing funding to support rhetoric’s future scholars’ attendance and participation in these programs.
