Become an RSA Member
Become part of a large and growing interdisciplinary group of scholars who share your interest in rhetoric.
In addition to receiving your own copy of Rhetoric Society Quarterly five times a year, joining RSA helps you in several ways. Joining RSA puts you into direct contact — via this website, RSA conferences and institutes, and other RSA members-only resources — with a large and growing interdisciplinary group of scholars who share your interest in rhetoric. Most RSA conferences are able to offer lower registration rates for RSA members, and RSA members are eligible to be nominated for several RSA awards.
Please note all memberships now run annually, for one (or two) years from the date of purchase. RSA membership dues are non-refundable.

Become a Student Member
Being an active student member of RSA helps students become aware of and integrated into interdisciplinary conversations about rhetoric — and helps them learn about resources — as they invent projects, study for comps, and enter the profession. Student chapters bring in rhetoric scholars from other universities and discuss matters of professionalization such as publishing in the field, applying for fellowships or jobs, and navigating the complexities of interdisciplinary research.

student chapters
RSA student chapters provide a forum for gathering locally as rhetoricians and can serve a variety of rhetoric-related functions. Many established student chapters have created or are creating rhetoric colloquia.

Some chapters use colloquia as a speaker series to bring in rhetoric scholars from other universities; others use them as a forum to discuss matters of professionalization such as publishing in the field, applying for fellowships or jobs, and navigating the complexities of interdisciplinary research.

Affiliate Status with Rhetoric Society of America
Organizations that share the society’s interest in furthering the study of all aspects of rhetoric are invited to apply for affiliate status. Affiliate status confers two guaranteed panel slots at the society’s biennial conference and a link on the society’s website to the affiliate organization’s website, if desired.
To apply for affiliate status, an organization should sen the society’s Executive Director a letter of application, which should include the organization’s web address (if any); a copy of the organization’s constitution and bylaws; a copy of the most recent issue of the organization’s journal (if any); and a copy of the most recent program for the organization’s conference (if any).
The Executive Director will present the organization’s application to the board of the society at its next meeting after the application has been received. Upon the board’s approval of the application, the Executive Director will send a letter of agreement to the organization spelling out the nature of the relationship and the specific benefits as described above.
All RSA affiliate agreements will be reviewed at five-year intervals by the RSA Board of Directors to determine whether the relationship remains beneficial to both RSA and the affiliate organization. Contact Leslie Dinauer, RSA Executive Director, for consideration.
